How to Start a Website

how to start a website

Starting a website is actually simpler than you might think. I've started several websites over the years and there's so many resources to help. Mine have ranged from a staging business, health and wellness coaching to travel.

Follow these easy steps.  Just take them one at a time and before you know it you'll have your own website.

  1. The first thing you need to do is to choose a website platform.  For beginners, pick a user-friendly platform like Kajabi, WordPress.org, Wix, or Squarespace. They provide ready-to-use templates and drag-and-drop features. Read our comparison here.

  2. Get a domain name. Think of a memorable name for your website that is easy to spell and understand and register it through a domain registrar like Bluehost.  We use Bluehost for all our domain name registrations.

  3. Select a hosting provider. If you purchased your domain through Bluehost, you can also use them for your hosting which makes the process easier. Hosting means they will store your website files and make it accessible online.

  4. Now it is time to design your website. Use the templates for the platform you chose and customize them to match your style. Add your content, images, and logo to make it unique.

  5. Make sure to organize your pages. Create essential pages like Home, About, Services, and Contact. Keep it simple and user-friendly for visitors with links to the various pages. Don't forget a Disclaimer and Disclosure page if you will be using affiliate links.

  6. It is important to optimize your website for Search Engines.  This is called Search Engine Optimization or SEO. Research keywords related to your website and incorporate them naturally into your content. This helps improve visibility on search engines like Google. Learn more about SEO here.

  7. Publish your website: Preview your site, check for any errors, and hit the publish button to make it live on the internet.

  8. Maintain and update: Regularly update your website with fresh content, ensure plugins/themes are up to date, and monitor its performance using analytics tools.

Starting a website is a continuous learning process, but don't worry, there are plenty of resources and tutorials available online to help you along the way.
